Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a Registered Dietitian?
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a nutrition expert and healthcare professional that specializes in helping people improve their health through motivation and personalized nutrition counseling. To become a registered dietitian, individuals must fulfill the following requirements:
- Earn a graduate degree from an accredited dietetics program. This includes completing biology, chemistry courses and training in nutrition and dietetics.
- Complete a supervised practice dietetic internship program.
- Pass the national registration exam for dietitians.
Registered Dietitians use their expertise to provide nutrition counseling that’s based on reliable evidence-based nutrition information rather than popular trends. RDNs also assess clients’ nutritional needs, identify barriers to healthy eating, & promote making sustainable diet and lifestyle changes, to help manage chronic health conditions.

3) What if you Don't Accept my Health Insurance?
If you are interested in seeing a dietitian from our practice that’s not in-network with your health plan, you have other options:
Option 1: You can pay for our nutrition services out of pocket. When requested, we can provide you with a superbill to give to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. Keep in mind that submitting a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement, and this varies plan by plan.
Option 2: You can pay for nutrition counseling using a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). The first step is to contact the HSA/FSA administrator to find out if counseling with a registered dietitian is an eligible medical expense. Then check with your HSA/FSA plan to find out whether there are any requirements, such as a letter of medical necessity, that must be met before health expenses are covered.
4) How often should I meet with a dietitian, and how long is each session?
The frequency of your visits will depend on your specific health needs, goals, individual plan, and health insurance benefit. Initial assessments are usually 60 to 90 minutes. The length of follow-up sessions ranges from 30 to 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are scheduled on a weekly, bimonthly, or monthly basis, depending on the amount of counseling needed and schedule availability.
During your initial visit, your registered dietitian will work with you to develop a personalized plan and recommend a follow-up interval that best supports your progress.
5) Do you Offer Meal Plans?
Yes, we do! We create custom meal plans and take into account your health condition, nutritional needs, cultural food preferences and more.
